Bobby Fischer and the Rooks was a band that started in late 2014, after I moved into the house on Fannin Street and started hanging out with some of the boys from UNU and some of the boys from Magnolia Soul (these overlapping like a venn diagram) - What started as a spontaneous jam led to an actual band, first F.A.R.T, then The Kitty Whiskers, then finally Bobby Fischer and the Rooks.
The band eventually split following members moving out of town.
These are the songs we were able to record in the short amount of time that we existed. We've been holding on to them for around two years now.
Before I go, and if you're even still reading this, there's a funny story about the whole "Later Gator" thing. One night on the way back from a show, I believe it was, Tre and I were driving on the home stretch back to Fannin House and suddenly we hit something with a BIG thud. After getting out of the vehicle, we see that we have in fact hit an alligator crossing the street between two chemical plants, from one part of the adjacent body of water to the other. The poor thing is still kicking. We call the cops to help us deal with it. In the mean time, another couple of people stop and hang out with us while we wait. The cops come and drag the little dude off to the side of the road, and we all go on our ways. In the midst of everything, I managed to grab a few snaps of it, before we all said "later gator" and went home...It felt right to honor the soul of that animal with some small amount of memorial.
Merry Christmas, and, well, Later Gator.
